Big Ten Academic Alliance Love Data Week Data Viz Championship

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is accepting entries into the Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA) Love Data Week Data Viz Championship.  The competition is open to students, faculty, and staff from Big Ten member institutions. You may participate as an individual creator or collaborate with others, so long as all participants are enrolled or work at a Big Ten member.  Multiple submissions are allowed!

The Student division will feature visualizations using the National Park Service Visits Data.

Faculty and Staff may submit either existing work that is publicly available or visuals created using public data that highlight the Big Ten. 

Submissions can be created with the user’s preference of software, including, but not limited to:

  • Tableau
  • Microsoft PowerBI
  • R
  • Python
  • Julia
  • or other

Or, you can forgo software entirely!  Last year’s champions featured physical objects that were documented in photos and videos.

All submissions must be publicly available via the web.

Love Data Week

Each Big Ten campus will choose one student and one faculty/staff winner.  
These winners will participate in the BTAA finals during the week of February 10.  
Their work will be showcased on the BTAA website as well!

How to Submit

To participate in the UNL competitions:

  1. Submit your creations to Jason Casey (jcasey10@unl.edu) by January 17, 2025 for consideration. 
  2. Include a link to the submitted work(s), A thumbnail image for display on the competition page, and the names and email addresses of all authors who created the work.

The Campus winners will be announced by January 24, 2025.

The BTAA will host online events during the week of February 10, including panels on data-related topics as well as the public showcase for the championship round of the BTAA Data Viz Competition.
